Video: USC pushes Barkley for Heisman after Oregon win
Give props to USC for striking while the iron was hot.
Less than 24 hours after quarterback Matt Barkley helped lead the Trojans to a 38-35 upset win over No. 4 Oregon, which knocked the Ducks out of national championship contention, the university released a YouTube video championing Barkley for the Heisman Trophy.
And almost all of the highlights in the video are from last week’s game against the Ducks. USC even incorporated a quote from Oregon coach Chip Kelly stating that Barkley was the best quarterback the Ducks had faced this year and that includes Stanford‘s Andrew Luck.
There’s no doubt Barkley deserves to be in the conversation. This year he’s thrown for 3,105 yards, 33 touchdowns, just seven interceptions and a 67.5 percent completion rate. He ranks in the top 15 in passing, passing yards per game, total passing yards and passing efficiency. And he’s kept the 9-2 Trojans relevant despite a lame duck season.
But, with ballots already out to voters and the Trojans season ending after this week’s game against UCLA, is it too little too late?
